-The exhibition of basket

久しぶりのかご展です。
今回はナタ入れや砥石入れなど小ぶりなかごが並びます。
以前のかご展に出さなかったものやその後縁あって手に入れたナタ入れや砥石入れなど小さいかごをすぐに店に出さずになぜか手元に置いていました。
それらを眺めていると、手放す前に皆さんとまた一緒にワイワイ愛でて送り出したくなりました。
自然の中で育った素材を使って、只々生活していくための道具として庶民が作り出したかごには、彼らと共に野山をかけめぐり彼らと苦楽を共にした後の充実した風情があり、その存在感に大小関わりなく圧倒されます。
ほころびても、ひしゃげていても、色あせていても、人々と嘘のない生活を送ってきた物だけが持つ美しさを放っていると私は感じます。
それは常々私が昔の庶民の布に感じる感覚と同じです。

Looking at the baskets
that I didn't show in my previous basket exhibitions, as well as
the baskets I've had the chance to acquire since then, I've decided
to show and offer them, enjoying them with you all once again.
These baskets, made
by ordinary people as tools for living
–
using materials that grow naturally in the fields and mountains
–
have an air of contentment after having traveled through the same
fields and mountains with their owners, and their presence is overwhelming,
no matter how large or small.
Even if they are broken,
I feel that they radiate the beauty that only objects that have
lived an honest life can have. This is the same feeling that I always
have with the textiles of the common people in the old days.
